Hi @donsd17,

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Flower_Bud is at your service.

As I understand, you're looking for WPS Pin.

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you,

As per printer specification, it only supports USB connectivity and does not support Wireless connectivity.

Set up your HP printer for a USB cable connection  to a Windows computer by following steps from the article.

Let me know how that pans out

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And feel free to ask any other queries as well,

Considering, this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Maybe I specified the wrong printer in my entry. I have an HP Officejet 5740 which supports network and USB. I was usihg it as a network printer until sometime after the latest Windows 10 update it suddenly went offline. I was unable to get it back online and as a last resort I decided to remove and replace the printer.

I tried to add it to my PC as a network printer. Windows 10 found the printer but when I tried to add it Windows 10 requested the printer WPS PIN. I could not find the pin in the printer documentation that I have so I checked the HP Support Forum but found no reference to the WPS PIN. I posted my question to the forum but after waiting for a while I decided to contact HP Support directly and called the support number.

My printer is out of warranty so I paid the fee to talk to a support tech. The tech I talked to was unable to provide a WPS PIN for my printer but after I agreed to letting her have remote access to my PC they proceeded to go through a lengthy process that involved removing the driver that Windows 10 had been using since I purchased my HP Envy several months ago and reinstalling the printer to my PC. I tried to follow the process and asked questions but soon was hopelessly lost.

I got my printer back online but I don't know when Windows 10 might decide to take it offline again.

I still don't know what the WPS PIN is for my printer model.

Hi @donsd17,

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

Your Printer will not use WPS method to connect but to know more about how WPS works, you could refer to the information given below.

WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) – WPS has two modes to connect devices together over a wireless connection. One is called "pushbutton" and the other is called "PIN". Pushbutton is by far the easiest method. We will describe how to connect using the WPS pushbutton method, but not the PIN method.

For instructions on starting WPS on your printer consult your printer's manual. However, there are some conditions that need to be met in order to use WPS pushbutton mode:

  • Both your printer and wireless router must support WPS pushbutton mode. Consult your printer and wireless router manuals.
  • The wireless router must have a physical WPS pushbutton available.
  • Your network must use   WPA or WPA2 security. Most WPS wireless routers will not connect using the WPS method if WEP or no security is used.
  • Most WPS wireless routers will not connect using the WPS method if you are using the manufacturer’s default for the network name and no security.

To connect your wireless printer to your wireless router using WPS:

  • Start the WPS pushbutton mode on your printer.
For instructions on starting WPS on your printer, consult your printer's manual.
  • Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your router.

To connect your printer to Wi-Fi, you can always refer to this link: Click Here.

For offline issue, refer to this document: Printer is Offline (Windows)

I appreciate your time and efforts,

I'm glad you found the solution for this concern.

You've been great to work with and it has been a genuine pleasure interacting with you.

I hope both you and your product works great and remain healthy for a long time 😉

Take care now and do have a fabulous week ahead. 🙂
