Hi all, my Samsung CLX 6260FW had a broken control unit. I found one online and replaced it. Now I get the error message

[11] 'GVUI’ has been terminated. (672)

The machine should be restarted for recovery.

i tried everything I found in this forum

- soft and hard resets

- replaced the main board battery

- removed the SD card

- checked all connections

would be grateful for any hint

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to the Hp community. I would be delighted to assist you. Superb description and terrific troubleshooting. Kudos to you for that.

The printer’s graphical user interface process (GVUI) on its embedded Linux OS crashed and could not recover. Since this usually runs on the control unit, the problem is often tied to firmware corruption, mismatched board firmware, or missing UI data from storage.

Step-by-Step Diagnostic Path
1. Check firmware compatibility

When you replace a control board, it often comes from a different model variant (CLX-6260FD / CLX-6260FR / etc.) or has different region firmware.
If the firmware version on your new control unit doesn’t match your printer’s engine firmware or NVRAM configuration, you get exactly this GVUI error.

Go to HP Support site
→ search for CLX-6260FW → download the latest firmware package (.hd).

Place the .hd file on a USB drive (formatted FAT32).

Insert into the printer’s USB port.

Power on while holding down the Stop button for ~15 seconds (forces firmware update mode).

If the printer recognizes it, it’ll prompt to update — this often clears the GVUI crash.

Verify SD card contents

Even though you’ve removed the SD card, this model uses the SD card to store UI and system data.
A missing, corrupted, or mismatched SD image will cause GVUI failure.

Reinsert the SD card.

Power on — if it still fails, try reformatting (FAT32) and re-flashing the SD card using the proper firmware.

If you still have your old (broken) control unit, check if its SD card differs (e.g., file count or size).

Clear NVRAM completely

A mismatch between stored printer configuration (in EEPROM) and the control board can cause GUI crashes.

Turn printer off.

Hold Menu + # + Power simultaneously until the service mode appears.

Navigate to Tech Mode → Clear All Data / NVRAM Reset.

Reboot.

If that menu never appears (because GVUI fails before loading), you may need to trigger NVRAM clear via service USB serial commands (requires HP Smart Device Service Plug-In — usually only available to technicians).

Inspect for incompatible hardware config

The CLX-6260FW expects:

Wireless module

Fax modem

Touchscreen control panel (connected via LVDS cable)

If your replacement control unit came from a model without fax or different panel type, the GVUI process crashes when initializing non-existent hardware.

Compare part numbers on both control boards (sticker labels, typically start with JC92-xxxxx).

Ensure both are identical or at least from a CLX-6260FW donor.
