Hi @Pete000,
Assuming you have Mac OS X 10.9 or a later version, install the HP Easty Scan app:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hp-easy-scan/id967004861?mt=12
Click teh Presets menu and select Edit Settings, then set the Scan Type as Document, the Source as Automatic Document Feeder and check the box next to Scan Both Sides.

Shlomi

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
We'd like to suggest you try this alternative Scan solution:
HP Scan Extended
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
Once it's installed, follow these steps:
1. Start the Scan software
2. Select Save as PDF
3. Under "Page Sides", select "2-sided (book)
4. Make sure Source is "Document Feeder if loaded"
Example as shown:
Then start Scan!
Hope that helps.

Many thanks. Sorry, I failed to mention I am on a Mac and when I download the MSI file it says there is no application to run it. When I look for this file in the applications folder it doesn't show and in the folder it is located it shows as a document, not an exe.
