I cannot scan from the document feeder from 7740. It worked for quite a while and then stopped.  message says "open the HP Printer software and select "scanner options"  and then select "manage scan to computer".  Where is the printer software located on laptop?    Thanks.

Hi@kolbod,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing issues with the HP Printer won't scan from feeder.

I have a few recommendations

The only way to scan from feeder, is to use "Windows Fax and Scan" program at a computer after place document in feeder. In the "New Scan" window, change "source" to "Document Feeder". Then it will scan from feeder.

Make sure that the guide rests gently against the paper stack and does not bind it. Try using the ADF again. If the ADF picked all the sheets in the stack of paper, then reinsert your original(s) and try copying or scanning again.

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

Root Level Uninstall and Reinstall:

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP LaserJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

To reinstall, click here: https://hp.care/2qbqWQr.

Once completed, try performing a scan using Automatic Document Feeder.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
