I installed the printer a month or so ago and scan to computer (from the printer interface) worked. Today I tried, and when I clicked 'scan' and 'my computer', it failed, then deleted the computer from the menu on the printer. HPsmart is installed and can see the printer and initiate a scan. I removed the printer from my HP account, from HPsmart and shut the printer down, then I powered it on and re-added, and problem is still there, it shows "setup required" when I hit scan --> computer.
to recap:
I have HPsmart installed and logged in.
Windows 10 has all updates, printer has all updates via HPsmart.
I can initiate a scan from the computer
I cannot initate a scan from the scanner.

Hi,
HP Smart allow scanning from the app itself, to enable Scan to Computer follow HP Easy Start and select to install the Basic or Full Feature HP Software.
Following the software installation open the HP Officejet Pro 8020 icon, within the Scan tab click on Manage Scan to Computer and enable the feature:

While following HP Easy Scan, be sure to select to install the Basic or Full Feature HP Software option within the Software Selection Screen, do not select the HP Smart option there as for these options the HP Scan software should also be installed, this is part of the other software options and not the HP Smart app.
