Check the Fax Setup:
Open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) or HP Smart, and confirm that the fax number, phone line connection, and fax settings are properly configured.
Verify Phone Line Connection:
Ensure the phone line is connected directly from the wall jack to the printer’s LINE port (not EXT). Remove splitters, VoIP adapters, or answering machines temporarily.
Install/Repair the Fax Driver:
Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, verify that HP Fax is listed. If missing, reinstall the full-featured HP software or run HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Run a Fax Test from the Printer:
On the printer’s control panel, print a Fax Test Report. If it shows line issues, resolve those before faxing from the PC.
Try Faxing Another Document/Format:
Fax a simple PDF directly from HP Smart or Print → HP Fax, ensuring you select the HP Fax device and not the printer.
