HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

The ADF stopped Working. When you insert the paper it does not make the document loaded sound and will not feed the document. This is not a power issue or a feeder jam.

Hi @jimmy088,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740's ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) isn't working and you're sure it's not a power issue or a jam, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot.

  • Clean the ADF Rollers: Dust or debris on the rollers can prevent the paper from feeding properly. Gently clean the rollers inside the ADF with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water.
  • Check for Obstructions: Even if you don’t see a jam, it’s worth checking the ADF for any small pieces of paper or other debris that might be causing the issue.
  • Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes firmware updates can resolve issues with printer functionality.
  • Check for Paper Types and Sizes: Make sure you’re using the correct paper type and size for the ADF.
  • Run Printer Diagnostics: Some HP printers have built-in diagnostics tools. Check the printer's control panel or HP’s software to run any available diagnostics tests.
  • Inspect ADF Mechanism: Gently lift the ADF to inspect the mechanism. Make sure there are no obstructions and that all parts are intact.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

In the paper path where the documents load there should be a flag that detects when you insert paper. That you do not get the document loaded sound suggests that either

1. The flag is broken so that it is not activated when you add paper

2. The sensor is dirty so does not sense when paper was added and still thinks feeder is empty

3. The sensor has failed altogether.

Ok great!

The flag is not broken.

if the sensor is dirty or not functioning, how do I clean or replace it.
