HP OfficeJet 6950 All-in-One Printer

I have been using an Officejet 6950 All-in-one printer for years, it worked well both from glass and ADF, both alone via the control panel and controlled by a PC (with Fedora Linux).

Lately the ADF is not working any more (while the printer still works fine from glass).

Now the printer takes a couple of pages from the ADF, stops while it takes the third, prints a blank page and gives a message, something like "The ADF was unable to take documents. Check that the cover is closed correctly and try again", but the cover IS CLOSED!

I have not done any firmware or driver updates and the problem occurs even when the PC is turned off and the printer is supposed to copy documents on its own.

Hi @AlOlmi,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're facing a hardware or sensor issue with the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) on your Officejet 6950 printer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Make sure there are no obstructions in the ADF path. Even small pieces of paper or debris can cause problems.

Clean the ADF Rollers:

  • Over time, the rollers in the ADF can accumulate dust and debris, leading to feeding issues. Gently clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth and a small amount of water.

Check ADF Sensors:

  • There might be sensors in the ADF that detect the presence of paper. Check for any sensors and ensure they are clean and unobstructed.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve temporary glitches.

ADF Paper Type and Condition:

  • Ensure that the paper you are using in the ADF is in good condition and is suitable for the printer. Check the paper specifications in the printer manual.

Update Firmware:

  • Although you mentioned that you haven't done any firmware updates, it might be worth checking if there are any available updates for your printer model. Sometimes, HP releases firmware updates to address issues.

Check for Error Codes:

  • Check the printer display for any error codes or additional information that might provide insight into the issue.

Factory Reset:

  • As a last resort, you can consider performing a factory reset on the printer. This will revert the printer settings to their original state. Refer to your printer manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Dear Alden4,

many thanks for your attempt to help me solve my problem with the Officejet 6950.

Your suggestions are the same ones that I found in a previous post (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Errors-or-Lights-Stuck-Print-Jobs/ADF-not-scanning-or-copying...) and which I had already followed, unfortunately without success.

Now I also updated the firmware and did a factory reset, but without any success.

Exactly what was described in the aforementioned post is happening to me, and it still continues to happen after all the attempts at a solution. I'm afraid it's a hardware problem and I'll have to take the printer to HP assistance.

Thanks anyway for the try, I'll let you know what they tell me.
