I read a recent post (2019) on this board that said that you can't access the USB thumb drive that's connected to a printer on your home or office network. Here is that thread https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/Access-USB-drive-through-network/m-p/7199...
I am in the market for a new printer right now and I would like to purchase one that allows access to it's thumb drive. What are some of the less expensive product lines that have this function?

Hi,
Accessing a memory device from the computer through the network can be done by mapping a network drive as explained in the older post.
That applies to any HP inkjet printer with a USB thumb reader, including the 8710 or any older or current model.
The 8710/8720 can be an option, as well the 9010/9020 models, be aware that direct USB printing from the printer only supports picture formats (but any format can be accessed with a computer
Additionally, there are many HP Laserjet printers to support such, those also support PDF and document printing directly from a thumb drive without using a computer.
