HP OfficeJet Pro 8020

A fried of mine needs help with his HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 and the HP Scan software:

He sends me 600 dpi scanned photos that are almost unusable, because the JPEG compression is too strong: Is there any way he can adjust the compression rate to, say, 99 % quality? (Looks like 50 % currently, it is really bad.)

I have downloaded the manual, but it doesn’t help.

How can I describe to him what to do? (I can’t visit him, he lives too far away.) He uses some version of Windows, and I’m not sure he knows which one.

I do not know if this will be helpful or not.

I have CM1415 and the full install driver set comes with "HP Scan".

That application has the following options

If I use HP Smart, not all of those options show up.  If fact, it is quite useless compared to HP Scan.

This might be helpful. Could you please go to the “Save as JPEG” option and send me a screenshot of the options in this panel?

My friend already knows how to raise the resolution to 600 dpi. That’s not the problem.

The problem is the rate of the JPEG compression.

Is there anything like an “advanced options” button? A slider like in the other answer is what I am actually looking for.

The software he uses is mainly white with a grey symbol bar at the top, and the selected panel is highlighted in cyan blue.

My printer does not have jpeg option to set compression like @Andr-1611 shows.

If I scan at 200 or at 1200 I only get "75" quality for all jpeg

C:\Users\josep\Pictures\Photos>magick identify -format '%Q' Scan-1200.jpg
'75'
C:\Users\josep\Pictures\Photos>magick identify -format '%Q' Scan-200.jpg
'75'

0 is poor and 100 is best

the driver below is same as what I listed earlier
8020 8028 full feature software Dec 2021

There is a firmware upgrade dated 2024 for the 8020 but I did not see anything related to jpeg compression.

That doesn't help us at all!
What exactly is the name of this scanner app?
A screenshot would also be very helpful!
