HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I just bought new HP Envy with Intell i7  and Windows 11. My HP Officejet 3830 prints fine  BUT the scanner (when using HHP Smart) keeps coming up "Cannot Connect To Scanner". Why would that be. It recognizes the printer?

Hi @dorienjaye,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue where your HP Officejet 3830 printer is recognized but the scanner isn't connecting could be due to several reasons. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Connection and Settings:

  • Ensure that your HP Envy and HP Officejet 3830 are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi).
  • Verify that the printer is turned on and properly connected to the network.
  • Check if there are any error messages on the printer's display panel that might indicate connectivity issues.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your HP Envy computer and the HP Officejet 3830 printer. Sometimes, a simple reboot can resolve connectivity issues.

Update HP Smart and Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your computer. Updates can sometimes include fixes for connectivity issues.
  • Similarly, check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Officejet 3830 printer. You can usually find this in the printer's settings menu or on the HP support website.

Firewall and Security Software:

  • Check your computer’s firewall settings and antivirus software. Sometimes these programs can block the connection to the scanner. Temporarily disable them (if safe to do so) and see if the scanner connects.

Reinstall HP Smart:

  • If updating doesn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Smart app on your computer. This can help fix any corrupted installation files that might be causing the issue.

Check Scanner Settings on Printer:

  • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the scan settings or network settings to ensure that the scanner function is enabled and configured correctly.

Check Network Configuration:

  • Ensure that there are no IP address conflicts or other network configuration issues that could prevent the scanner from communicating with your computer.

Driver Issues:

  • Occasionally, driver issues can cause connectivity problems. Ensure that the printer drivers on your computer are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP support website.

Try a Different Scanner Software:

  • If HP Smart continues to have issues, try using a different scanning software (such as Windows Scan or the software that came with the printer). This can help determine if the problem is specific to HP Smart or a broader connectivity issue.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and hopefully resolve the issue of your HP Officejet 3830 scanner not connecting to HP Smart on your HP Envy computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

The advice is chiefly helpful to people who speak computer, alas.  I think it is the same advice given in the video under support.  I at least did disconnect, reconnect, etc., but the HP Smart still says no scanner found.  I quite often scan on my OfficeJet 3830, so I don't understand.
