Automatic numbering of scanned documents
03-09-2021 10:33 AM

It's not a printer at all but there's no category for a stand alone scanner! Is there any way of turning off the automatic numbering of scanned documents please? We can enter a name for a document but when it comes up on the screen, numbers have been added to the end so we always have to go back into the document and delete them.
Specifically, we normally scan documents which may be several pages long but which we keep as a single multi-page document.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I cannot find evidence in the HP Scan software that it can add page numbers.
Looking at the "printer" HP Scan and comparing the description in the HP ScanJet Pro 2000 s2, 3000 s4, N4000 snw1, HP ScanJet Enterprise Flow 5000 s5, 7000 s3, N7000 snw1... , the HP Scan "scanner" version appears to be similar in character to the printer version of HP Scan.

The file name should be a result of the name convention used for the individual file.
You would normally have control over whether the file content is one or more pages in length.

Thanks for such a speedy and helpful reply. We are using HP software downloaded when we installed the Scanjet Pro. When we scan a document and go to save it, the default 'name' which comes up is shown as Scan_{n}.pdf. We always completely blank that name and type in the name we want. However, do you think that it could it be this {n} which is triggering the autonumbering?
We find it puzzling because we always remove it by putting in the name we want. We'll do another software update but it looks as though we may have to live with it. We do have two other printers - both HP - which have scanners but this little Scanjet Pro is brilliant.

You are welcome.
The file base name convention is used to separate one document from another during the scan > save process.
HP Scan
Select "Save as PDF"
Destination
Example - HP Scan > More > Destination
9025_HP_Scan_Menu_PDF_3
9025_HP_Scan_Menu_PDF_More_Destination_1
There is limited automatic file name control.

Dragon Fur,
Thank you so much for your guidance. I went through to the Destination - File type and found that the scans were defaulting to Scan_{n}.pdf. I then found a click box which was by default set to document counter. When I turned it off, the scans then defaulted to Scan.pdf.
I am very grateful for your help because this was a really annoying problem.
