Thank you for your efforts to help me with my printer problem.

I have impolemented all your advices, and it still did not want to work.  That was the moment when I decided to star from the begining - start checking/replacing cables, voltages, etc.  I discovered that the computer network cable, while still properly connected, is was defective - one pin out of alignment. I replace it and Eureka!, the HP 410a printer worked.  I was puzzlied because the other HP 8600 printer worked before changing the netwrok cable - it was connected wirelessly to the computer!

Now both printers work on cabled network.

Thank you Flower_Bud and DavidSMP

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand, your printer does not print,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

How is the printer connected to PC (Wi-Fi or USB)?

What is the error message while trying to print?

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

Download and Run HP Print and Scan Doctor: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers:

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

If the issue persists, try installing printer drivers using Windows Built-in Print Driver from the link: HP printer setup (Windows built-in driver)

Let me know how that pans out

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask any other queries as well,

Considering, this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

I have two HP printers (HP 8600 and HP C410a) connected to the system by network cable in the router. One printer HP 8600 works, although I cannot order from computer scan or fax operations.

HP C410a is identified in HP Support Assistant and in W8.1 Control Panel.  Not identified in W8.1 Device Manager.  Cables connections checked. New genuine HP cartridges. All update software. Printed rebooted. PRINTER CANNOT BE USED. Yet, I  can scan docs (in .jpeg format only, no .pdf) saved ONLY to SD flash inserted in the printer.

Product name:     HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One Printer - C410a

Model name:        CQ521A

Serial number:      [Personal Information Removed]

I run several time HP Print and Scan – still HP C410a does not work.

When was the last time it worked fine?                   I did not used it for 5 weeks

Were there any hardware/software changes made?                           NO changes

How is the printer connected to PC (Wi-Fi or USB)?            Connected to the system by network cable in the router

What is the error message while trying to print?                 Just ERROR in the W8.1 print box. No problem with HP8600

Using "printui.exe /s" I attempted to delete all C410a entries.  Here is the message I received”

Failed to remove driver HP Photosmart Prem C410 series. The specified printer driver is currently in use.

Failed to remove package hpc410.inf. Driver package is in use.

Driver Properties – Driver Path = C:\Windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3

Installed driver from HP FULL PS_AIO_07_C410_140_408-5.exe – still not working.

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

Do you get any error message while trying to print?

Are you able to copy document?

Give permissions to all the entries under Group Usernames

1.) Open path C:/Windows/System32/Spool

2.) Right click on PRINTERS folder and select Properties

3.) Click Security tab.

4.) Click Advanced

5.) Under Permissions tab click Continue

6.) Allow Full control to all entries below Principal.

7.) Click Apply and Ok.

8.) Open Devices and Printers.

9.) Right-click the name of your printer and select Printer properties

10.) Click Security tab and give full permissions to all the entries under Group Usernames.

11.) Restart the PC.

Try printing 🙂

Let me know how this goes,

Cheers 🙂

Thank you Flower_Bud.

Here is the situation:

  • No error message while trying to print – this specific printer is not shown
  • Yes, printer can copy documents and can scan documents, locally, only on SD and only on ‘jpeg format.

Gave permissions as directed.  Printer screen showed <<General printer error 0-610000f6>>

When attempted printing, MS Word Message <<Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup.

What’s next?

@sdamian01,

Thanks for the update.

Uninstall the printer completely by following these steps:

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, in control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

Then create a new user account as an administrator  from this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/13951/windows-create-user-account

Log into the new user account after restarting your computer.

Then please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: https://hp.care/2o3acvH

  • Perform steps 2 and 3 to remove the printer and re-add it. This should do the trick for you. There is an associated YouTube video on how to do it.

This might do the trick for you.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂
