HP Laserjet 200 m276nw
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

HI GUYS

i'm at my wits end trying to troubleshoot an issue i'm having with my laserjet 200 m276nw with latest firmware version 20180205.

I have it connected via cat5e network cable to a router and when I want to scan from the printer to my windows 7 x64 desktop - which is also connected to the same router via cat5e, the computer isn't listed in the "scan to" menu, yet my wifi connected windows 10 laptop is?!?!.

I've tried all of the pertinent points listed in the document describing the symptom:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-laserjet-pro-200-color-mfp-m276/5097648/model/5097653/docume...

without any success.  The printer prints and/or scans just fine when sending a command from the desktop, it just never shows the option to scan to the computer in the printer onscreen display.

Concerning the particulars:

On the win 7 desktop I am using the latest FULL version of the drivers - 15.0.15188.2008, network discovery is "on", and although windows firewall is also "on", i've tried disabling it with zero effect as well.  The print and scan doctor showed zero problems after running.  I have tried removing and reinstalling the FULL driver software suite.  I've tried restarting both the printer and the computer.  Windows image acquisition is running just fine based on manual check combined with the results from the print and scan doctor.

At this point my only suspicion is step 2 of the aforementioned link it specifies:

"Search Windows for your printer model name, and then click the printer name in the list of results.

  • If HP Printer Assistant opens, click Scan a Document or Photo or Manage Scan to Computer, and then make sure the check box is selected next to Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log onto Windows.
  • If HP Solution Center opens, click Scan Settings to view scan connection status, settings, and preferences."

I could not find any setting for "automatically start scan to computer when i log onto window", or anything similar??!!

any thoughts?

Hi! @COHO660, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you have issues scanning to the computer and you don't see an option of scan computer option on your PC.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Please provide the printer model name and the operating system running on your PC to assist you better.

As you mentioned you have issues scanning to the computer and you are getting error username or password incorrect on your printer.

Are you using scan to email or scan to a network folder? If so which feature are you using?

Try the steps recommended below.

Select the file type you want to save, and then scan the item.

  1. On the printer control panel, press the Scan button.

  2. Use the arrow buttons to select the type of scan you want, select Computer, and then press Start Scan.

  3. The folder where the scan saved (usually My Documents) automatically opens on the computer. Double-click the scan file in the list to view the scan, rename it, or change any additional settings.

Try the steps recommended below to scan to computer.

Configure the Scan to E-mail feature
Click the System tab.
On the left navigation pane, click the Administration link.
In the Enabled Features area, set the Scan to Email option to On.
Click the Scan tab.
On the left navigation pane, click the Outgoing E-mail Profiles link.
On the Outgoing E-mail Profiles page, click the New button.
In the E-mail Address area, complete the following fields:
In the Your E-mail Address field, enter the sender’s email address for the new outgoing email profile.
In the Display Name field, enter the sender’s name. This is the name that will display on the printer control panel.
In the SMTP Server Settings area, complete the following fields:
In the SMTP Server field, enter the address of the SMTP server.
In the SMTP Port field, enter the SMTP port number.
   NOTE:
In most cases, the default port number does not need to be changed.
   NOTE:
If you are using a hosted SMTP service such as gmail, verify the SMTP address, port number, and SSL settings from the service provider’s Web site or other sources. Typically, for gmail, the SMTP address is https://hp.care/2pzQw1q, port number 465, and the SSL should be enabled.
Please refer to online sources to confirm these server settings are current and valid at the time of configuration.
If you are using Google™ Gmail for email service, select the Always use secure connection (SSL/TLS) check box.
If the SMTP server requires authentication to send an email, complete the following fields in the SMTP Authentication area:
Select the SMTP server requires authentication for outgoing e-mail messages check box.
In the SMTP User ID field, enter the user ID for the SMTP server.
In the SMTP Password field, enter the password for the SMTP server.
To require a PIN to be entered on the printer control panel before an email is sent using the email address, complete the following fields in the Optional PIN area:
In the PIN (Optional) field, enter a four-digit PIN.
In the Confirm PIN field, re-enter the four digit PIN.
   NOTE:
HP recommends creating a PIN to secure the email profile.
   NOTE:
When a PIN is created, it must be entered on the printer control panel each time the profile is used to send a scan to email.

If the issue still persists, uninstall the printer software from root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

Select your HP printer.

Select Uninstall.

In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

Click on Drivers tab.

Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

Select OK.

Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

Close Devices and Printers.

Update the full feature printer software using this link: https://hp.care/2JS261a

Refer this article to know more information about using the scan to computer feature from your printer.

2. Under the Scan menu, there is a “Manage Scan to Computer”, click on that.
3. Make sure that you “Enable” Scan to Computer. Also make sure the tab “Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log on to Windows” is checked if you want to make this feature permanent. (the following video will show you how)

Refer this video instructions on how to scan to computer. Link: https://hp.care/2qGgb98

There is no "manage scan to computer".... If there was it seems my problem would be solved, but the option isn't there to select

unless i'm missing something

there is no option for "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

at all

and consequently, no way to access a phone number.

This seems to mirror the missing “Manage Scan to Computer”, section of the missing "hp printer assistant"

@COHO660, Thanks for your quick response and time again.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned the issue still persists after reinstalling the drivers.

The Manage Scan to Computer option should only appear on a network connected printer, So try connecting the printer wirelessly to the network and the computer should appear automatically on the printer screen once connected to the network.

Also, try connecting the printer to the PC using a USB cable.

If the issue still persists try the steps recommended below.

Try disabling the antivirus software on your PC and check if it helps.

  1. Click on your Start menu
  2. In the 'search programs and files' box right above Start, type msconfig and hit enter on your keyboard
  3. When the System Configuration Window opens select 'Selective Startup' anduncheck Load Startup Items
  4. Click the Services tab. Check the box at the bottom for Hide All Microsoft Services
  5. Select Disable All
  6. Select Apply and OK
  7. Restart your computer when prompted

Once your computer restarts please test the front panel scanning option again. Because all background programs are disabled you may need to manually 'Enable' the scan to computer feature in order to test it. Once you manually Enable the feature it should stay Enabled for you.

If the solution provided worked for you, please mark accepted solution for this post.

Let me know if this works!

tried it

disabled ALL non microsoft startup items AND services AND Microsoft security essentials (the only antivirus software) - the computer STILL is NOT detected on the printer "scan to computer" menu on the printer control panel

tried booting into safe mode - same effect

seeing as this forum account has an email address...perhaps emailing a phone number might be in order?
