Hi,

I want to send some faxes from my computer.

The printer is connected via USB.

Can I attach the printer as a modem on the computer? or is there any way to send the fax directly from Windows without having to first print the pages manually?

Best regards!

Hi @Weitzhandler, I am the Mr.Robot. It looks like you were interacting with @Riddle_Decipher, but he is out of the office today, so I'll take over from here.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

Try to uninstall the printer software from root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

Select your HP printer.

Select Uninstall.

In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

Click on Drivers tab.

Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

Select OK.

Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

Close Devices and Printers.

Link to update the full feature printer software. Link: http://hp.care/2FPzhzN

To send a fax from the computer, the printer must be on and the computer must have the HP printer software installed.
Open the document or photo that you want to fax, and then click File, and then Print.
When the print menu opens, select your printer’s fax printer driver (not MS Fax) from the list of printers.
Enter the fax recipient's phone number and send the fax.

To send a fax from the printer control panel try the steps recommended below.

Send a fax from your printer by loading your document, and then dialing the receiving fax phone number from the printer control panel.

  1. If you know the recipient is in a home or home office and shares the phone line with their fax machine, call them to let them know you are sending a fax.

  2. Load the document you want to fax.

    • If your printer has an automatic document feeder (ADF), load all pages of your document into the ADF. Use the engraving or sticker on the ADF tray to see the correct page orientation when loading the originals.

Figure : Loading the paper in the ADF

Load the paper on the document feeder tray.
    • If your printer does not have an ADF or you only have one page to fax, load the page face down on the scanner glass.

Figure : Loading the original on the scanner glass

Loading the original on the scanner glass.
  3. Make sure blank paper is loaded in the input tray for any fax reports that might print.

  4. Make sure the phone line is currently not in use. Pick up any phone connected to the same phone line as the fax and listen for a dial tone.

  5. Enter the recipient’s phone number or select a number from your fax phone book.

  6. Press the Black, Color, or Send button to send the fax. The printer dials the number you entered, and a phone connection is made.

    • If you hear a busy signal, the receiving fax phone line is busy. Try faxing again later.

    • If you hear someone’s voice answer the phone, wait until they manually accept your fax, or cancel the fax from the front panel if you suspect the phone number is wrong.

    • If you hear high-pitched sounds, your fax is being sent.

  7. A fax report prints. Read the report to learn if the fax completed successfully, or if an error was encountered.

@Weitzhandler

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Riddle_Decipher is at your service.

As I understand you need information on sending a fax directly from windows,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Have you attempted to install the latest drivers for your printer? use this link to find and install the same: http://hp.care/2FDyPIY

While you responding to that, here's what you need to do:

Use a fax-capable HP printer to send documents to another fax machine. In most cases, faxing requires a traditional landline telephone service. Faxing is considered more secure than sending documents through email or postal mail.

  note:

If your printer is already set up for faxing, but cannot send or receive faxes, go to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section for assistance.

Prepare the printer for faxing

Prepare your HP printer for faxing. These steps use a traditional landline telephone service. If you use a different type of phone service (cellular, Internet phone, PBX, or DSL), see the FAQs in this document to set up the connection.

  1. Obtain a telephone cord. Use the cord that came with the printer. If you do not have the original cord, use a cord with connectors that have two wire leads, not four.

    Figure : Example of a two-wire connector

    Two-wire connector
  2. Connect the phone cord to the phone wall jack and to the 1-LINE jack on the back of the printer.

Figure : Connect the 1-LINE phone connection

    Connect the 1-LINE phone connection
  3. If you have an answering machine, connect a phone cord to the machine and to the 2-EXT jack on the rear of the printer. Doing so allows your telephone answering machine to record voice calls normally without fully recording the noises from faxes.

Figure : Connecting an answering machine and phone

    1. Wall jack

    2. Two-wire phone cord

    3. Answering machine

    4. Single-line telephone

  4. Set up fax preferences from the printer control panel menu.

    • Dial type: Match the type of analog phone service you have; tone or pulse. If the dial type does not match, the printer cannot detect rings and answer incoming calls.

The tone dial type is the current industry standard, and can be found in most areas. You might have pulse dialing if you use a rotary telephone. If you are not sure of the dial type, contact your phone service provider.

    • Answer mode/Auto answer: Picks up your phone calls after a specified number of rings and accepts incoming faxes. If this feature is off, a person must manually accept incoming faxes from the printer control panel.

    • Rings to answer: When the phone rings, the printer waits and counts the number of telephone rings before it answers the call.

      • If the phone line is shared with your voice calls, choose a number rings that provides enough time for you to answer the phone before the printer picks up a call.

      • If the phone line is shared with an answering machine, choose a number to pick up that is two rings more than the answering machine. Doing so ensures the answering machine answers the phone before the printer.

    • Fax volume: Select a volume level to hear sounds made during the fax call, such as dial tones and busy signals. Do not set the fax volume to Off unless you want silent faxing and are able to send and receive faxes regularly.

    • Fax header: Enter text you want recipients to see at the top of your faxes. A typical fax header contains your name, the name of your business, and your fax telephone number (recommended).

Hello and thanks for your reply.

I installed the fax driver from the address you provided.

When I open the "HP Send Fax" app in the start menu, my printer doesn't appear in the installed faxes.

Here's what it looks like:
