Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

12/15/24 - Can I use my HP 9135e without logging into HP Smart?  This forced sign on feels like a post-purchase ambush. If not any alternative the HP Smart?

Hi @TimeCrunchFlame,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I completely understand how frustrating it feels to be forced into using an app like HP Smart to access your printer, especially when you want a seamless experience. While HP has increasingly required users to log into HP Smart to set up and manage their printers, there are alternatives that allow you to print without relying on HP Smart.

Install the Printer Using the Built-in Windows or macOS Driver:

  • On Windows:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a Printer.
    • Windows will search for available printers. Select your HP 9135e and follow the prompts to install it.
  • On macOS:
    • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Click the + icon to add a printer, then select your HP 9135e from the list and add it.
  • This bypasses HP Smart and lets you print directly.

Use Basic Print and Scan Drivers:

  • Download and install the basic printer drivers directly from the HP Support website instead of HP Smart.
  • Go to support.hp.com and search for your HP 9135e model. Look for "Driver-Product Installation Software" and select the basic driver.
  • This will allow you to print and scan without requiring HP Smart.

Use the Printer via USB Connection:

  • Connect your printer to the computer using a USB cable.
  • Windows or macOS will detect the printer automatically and install the appropriate drivers.
  • This method doesn’t require logging into HP Smart.

Access Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • If you’ve already connected the printer to your Wi-Fi, you can manage printer settings directly through its IP address:
    • Print a Network Configuration Report to find the printer’s IP address.
    • Type the IP address into a browser (e.g., 192.168.x.x) to access the Embedded Web Server.
  • Through EWS, you can monitor printer status, manage settings, and bypass HP Smart for basic tasks.

Third-Party Printing Options:

  • On smartphones or tablets, use native printing features such as AirPrint for iOS or Mopria Print Service for Android instead of HP Smart.
  • These services let you print wirelessly without requiring an HP login.

Note:

While these methods allow you to print, some advanced features like firmware updates, scanning (in some cases), or using Instant Ink may still require HP Smart. However, for basic printing needs, the above steps can help you work around the forced sign-on.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
