I just returned a brand-new HP 7440 Printer because it did not directly support OCR and creating searchable PDF files.  Will the HP OfficeJet Pro 9025e provide this capability or will it also rely on outside third party utiliy for this capability??

Hi,

Both the HP Officejet Pro 7740 or 9025e models supports OCR capabilities.

 

following the full feature software installation you would need to install the HP Universal Scan Driver as well, which adds OCR capabilities to the HP Scan software.

 

You may download and install the HP Universal Scan Driver below, following its installation open the HP Scan program of your printer:

Thank you but the Universal Scan Driver is not listed for the 7440 or the 9025e Printers!  Please be thorough in your research before you reply.   You are now the third HP Support person to possibly provide inaccurate information.  

 

Please confirm this is an accurate statement -- both the 7440 or the 9025e Printers do not provide the Universal Scan Driver on their download page or anywhere else on the HP Driver Support site?

 

All please note, the third-party searchable scan solution provided in these two printers has licensing restrictions, creates an extra step in creating the PDF while the quality of the end scan is lessoned.  I strongly advise HP to correct.

Please give it a try, I personally have both models installed and can share my experience that it works perfectly well and adds OCR capabilities to the originally installed HP Scan software.

Show me the specific link for the Universal Scan Driver that provides support for searchable PDF creation with the 7440 and/or 9025e. 

 

I did not use HPEasyStart, I used the full feature Webpack (Full_Webpack-40.16.1234_1-OJ7740_Full_Webpack).

It clearly states the 7740 was repackaged without Character Recognition.  Maybe this is recent but show me a supported HP Driver for these unites that provide the capability to create searchable PDF's.  They decided to bundle in a separate third-party utility that is unacceptable due to licensing costs, extra steps, and quality issues.

First, a kind reminder that this is a peer to peer community and not a direct contact with HP, I do not work for or represent HP in any way, just sharing my personal experience during my free time..

 

This is a recent change indeed, the OCR software is no longer included with the full feature software, the HP Universal Scan driver however does install the same OCR software component as was bundled with the original software.

 

The Universal Scan Driver is not listed on the product page indeed, as does not support your printer or will detect it on its own, however it does install the same software which then adds the OCR options to your already installed and configured HP Scan instance and will provide you the exact same results with no extra steps.

Thank you for your time and sharing, duly noted.  FYI, I am not spending hundreds of Dollars on a printer I have to try and jury rig using a different driver package.   This 7404 Printer is going back today, and I will stop considering the alternative 9025e.

 

Previously I called the HP Support line twice and asked about the 7404 a scanning in docs to create a searchable PDF.  They had no clue in either case.  I had to explain basic capabilities.  One wanted me to call the fee for service while the second one wanted me to call Adobe.  I assumed they actually work for HP but maybe not?

 

Thanks again but I considered this solution unacceptable, closed and I will move on...  🙂
