I've suddenly lost communication between the scanner and the computer. Previously, everything worked fine. No issues with printing, but when I attempt to scan from the "HP ENVY 5530 series : HP Printer Assistant" software I get an error ("The HP Envy 5530 series was not found"). Likewise, when attempting to initiate the scan from the HP ENVY, I get a connection error. I am using a USB connection and the computer sees the printer (but evidently not the scanner) just fine. I have been running Windows 10 for a long time and can't think of any notable system changes made recently.
When I run "HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.0", it completes the first 4 steps ok but gets hung up when trying to perform "Windows (WIA) Scan".
I have tried resetting (cycling power to) the router (and cycling power to the printer and computer). I have also tried restarting both the Windows Image Acquisition and Shell Hardware Detection services, all to no avail.
I can still 'scan to email' but would really like to send it directly to the computer. Ideas?

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
As I understand you can no longer scan to/from the computer using the HP Envy 5530,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help you, although, to provide an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern:
Have you attempted reinstalling the drivers or upgrading the firmware of the printer recently?
Does the copier work fine as a standalone printer? if not that could mean a hardware failure and if it works as a standalone, you may attempt the below steps:
Let's begin with completely uninstalling the drivers and checking for the following steps:
- Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
- Restart your computer.
- Now click here to download and install the printer drivers.
- Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
- Restart your computer & the printer before you attempt scanning.
If the issue persists, try using the HP Scan and Capture app. HP Scan and Capture is a simple application that captures photos or documents from an HP scanning device or your computer's built-in camera. These images can be previewed, edited, saved, and shared to other applications as well.
Click here to download and install the HP Scan and Capture app.
Let me know how that pans out,
Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,
It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

The link you provided downloaded the 64-bit package, but otherwise that solution did the trick. I found and downloaded the 32-bit full feature package and am now back in business with scan capability. Appreciate your help!
