HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, reset the printer, rebooted computer during each step and I cannot get my printer to scan using either Easy Scan, Image Capture or from the printer setup.

I followed an earlier post for a similar problem, however, it has not fixed the problem.

Hi MrREJ,

First of all, thank you for choosing HP product. I understand that currently you are having difficulties related to scan. Please allow me to walk you through with the troubleshooting. Let's get started!

Things to take note:

Currently from HP official website, macOS 10.13 high Sierra is not in the compatible operating systems list. You may experience some connectivities issues.

Steps for troubleshooting:

To check hardware issue

1) Try do a copy job from the printer. Put an image on to the scan glass and do a copy job. If the copy job successful, we can safely conclude hardware is working fine.

There are 2 methods of connecting the printer to your Macbook.

1) Wireless

2) USB 2.0

Check connectivity issue

1) unplug the USB cable from the printer. Try using Wifi to do you scanning job.

2) Connect your printer to a wireless network. Install the print driver and software from HP website. When prompt during the installation, select Wireless as the connection type. Please follow the steps provided in the link below.

https://support.hp.com/sg-en/document/c04517456

3) Try to scan an image using the scan icon from the printer control panel and send it to your Macbook. Or you can try to trigger the scan from your Macbook as well.

4) If still unsuccessful, get another mobile device to try it (example Iphone or ipad). Download the HP Easy Scan 1.9.1 (only for iOS) and trigger the scan from there.

If other mobile device are working fine with the printer except your macbook, which means that current OS that you are using might not be fully compatible with this printer. As such, please be patience and wait for the driver updates from HP official website. If not, I would suggest you to downgrade the OS to 10.10 Yosemite and try again.

Do let me know the outcome.

Have a nice day!

Hello,

Please try these.

1) You also can try to go to 'Control Panel' > 'Hardware and Sound' -> 'Devices and Printers' -> under 'Printers and Faxes'.

2) Select your printer and Right click -> Go to 'Properties' -> Select 'Hardware' tab.

3) Choose your printer model and click 'Properties' button below.

4) Go to 'Driver' tab -> and click on  'Update Drivers' button.

5) You can choose 'Search autmatically for updated driver software'.
