HP LaserJet Pro MFP M428fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello all,

I'm unable to scan to SharePoint (365) from an HP M428fdw.  The error given is below:

  • Protocol not supported. Check your network configurations and try again.

Scan to SharePoint is enabled and I have created a quickset.  The authentication requirements ask for a Domain, Username and Password.  What should these credentials be when signing in to Office365 SharePoint?  I have used several formats.  I can see succesful sign-in when I use "sharepoint.com" as the domain, and my email address and password in the username and password fields.

I'm using a app password to avoid possible MFA issues.  I have tested this sign-in method by opening an in-private browser to the SharePoint path using my email address and app password.

Can anyone help?

Hi @BrianMankin,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're encountering issues with scanning to SharePoint from your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M428fdw. Here are some steps and considerations that might help resolve the problem.

Authentication Credentials: When configuring scan to SharePoint, you generally need to use your Office 365 credentials. Here's how you should format them:

  • Domain: Leave this blank or use "sharepoint.com".
  • Username: Your full Office 365 email address.
  • Password: Your Office 365 password or an app password if you have multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled.

Network Configuration: Ensure that the printer is correctly connected to your network and that it has internet access. Verify if there are any firewall settings or network restrictions that could be blocking the connection to SharePoint.

Quickset Configuration: Double-check your Quickset configuration on the printer. Make sure that the SharePoint settings are correctly entered, including the SharePoint URL, authentication credentials, and any other required fields.

Testing Authentication: You mentioned testing the sign-in method by accessing SharePoint via an in-private browser. This is a good step to verify that your credentials are working correctly outside of the printer environment.

Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP M428fdw printer. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve compatibility issues and improve functionality.

By reviewing these points and ensuring that your credentials and network settings are correctly configured, you should be able to resolve the "Protocol not supported" error when scanning to SharePoint from your HP MFP M428fdw printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
