I recently upgraded a PC to Windows 10 1809. They are using the Microsoft Mail app as their default email application. Thunderbird is not an option because they use Exchange ActiveSync to connect to work email. Whenever I try to scan to email with the HP Scan To application, nothing happens. No error message and the scan is nowhere to be found. I can save it locally and manually attach the file, but I'm trying to get this to work for someone less technically inclined. I've made sure that the driver I used was the most recent driver available from HP (Jul 22, 2016). I've tried to create a batch file (for scan to an application) calling a mailto command to attach the PDF. The mail app opens with an email, but it ignores the attachment. If anyone knows a way to make this work, I would greatly appreciate your help.

@rsawyer84, Welcome to HP Support Community!
I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:
1) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2) Select your HP Printer
3) Select Uninstall
4) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
😎 Click on the “Drivers” tab
9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10) Select Ok
11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12) Close Devices and Printers
Now, download and install the full-featured printer software from here
Let me know the outcome
Cheers 🙂

I tried the steps you gave. When I tell it scan to email, it scans then asks me if I want to scan another page. I tell it no, but nothing happens after that. I also tried setting the printer up on a new PC and got the same result. I'm pretty sure it may have something to do with the Windows 10 Mail app not supporting MAPI.

Let us try this-
- Sign into your email account.
- Go to your account settings, search for authentication, SMTP, or security, and then follow the on-screen instructions to set-up access for the scan to email feature.
Keep me posted.
Cheers 🙂

Hi,
The Scan to application only supports scanning to a mail client software such as Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird.
It does not support scanning to a modern Windows 10 app such as Microsoft Mail.
For a such, you would need to scan to a file on your computer, then manually attach the file to a new Mail message.
