Can't scan without internet connection

HP Smart won't let me scan without connecting to the internet.  How do I fix this?

I should be able to scan without an internet connection. I could scan without an internet connection when I bought the product (HP OfficeJet 4650) and I should be able to continue to ensure the full use of my product.  Your changes have reduced the utility of the product and rendered part of the core functionality useless.  You have a duty of care to maintain the same functionality that I bought and definitely are not able to limit functionality after the purchase date.

Please advise on your resolution of the above.  I'll progress with the NZ Office of Fair Trading if you do not respond within one month.

You failed to mention your Operating System / version.

For example,

If you are running a supported Version of Windows,

Use of HP Smart is completely optional on this printer.

What?

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Installing the full driver printer software provides the foundation for installing additional scan programs and applications (no sign in).

Sorry I figured clicking the button that said ‘support’ would be HP support. I know you’re trying to be helpful but I’d prefer to raise this with HP’s team as this is not a matter for me to muddle about with and spend my time fixing. HP should have a solution published online for this issue. It’s not up to their customers to solve HP’s problems for them.

BTW The info you’ve provided looks really good and could be interesting. It’s really impressive that you’re willing to invest your time helping random strangers with their tech solutions. Thank you. Call me old fashioned but I think that’s something HP should pay people to do rather than rely on customer good will to solve problems. 

I guess I’ll email them and slag them off on Facebook. 😁

The solution provided (install the printer software) will answer the question of avoiding the use of HP Smart on Windows.

There are several scan program and application options that do not require the sign-in.

Some of these do depend on the printer software having been installed.
