HP C7200 All-In-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My C7200 failed the POST because the ink cartridges were expired so I removed the ink cartridges. I would like to use the C7200 as a scanner but now it fails the POST because the ink cartridges are missing. Is there a way to use the C7200 scanning functions if there are no ink cartridges installed?

Thank you for a solution, whoever you may be  🙂

A warm welcome to HP Support Community!

Scanning using the printer control panel may not be possible since it's stuck on the "ink cartridge missing" message. However, we should be able to initiate a scan from the computer. If the printer is connected to a computer, then download and install the printer software and driver from here and then, use HP Scan and Capture or HP Scan software to start a scan. The following links have instructions on how to scan using HP Scan and HP Scan and Capture:

Scan using HP Scan and Capture

Scan using HP Scan

Let me know how it goes!

Hello Senan6806 -

Thanks for getting back to me. I had it in storage for awhile and was just trying to go through setup to connect it to my network when I hit that fail. I'll try connecting it as a USB device and see if it gets picked up as a scanner. I'll let you know what happens.

Regards,

John

Hi Senan6806 -

I ignored the failed POST and connected the C7200 via USB cable. It was recognized as a Printer/Scanner device and I was able to access the scanner function. Thanks for suggesting this workaround.

The device would be more "user-friendly" if it allowed the use of other functions through the front panel when the print cartridges are empty or missing.

Regards,

John
