Is there a way to manually adjust the scan area when using the flatbed scanner? I only see the various "page size" options. What if I want a custom size? I'm being forced to use the "Entire Scan Area" option and then I have to open a second program to crop the scanned image. My old Epson scanner just let you crop the scan area before doing the actual scanning. That would be really helpful here and save me a lot of time. Seems like something the software could support without too much effort.

If the software to which you refer is the HP Smart for Windows application,
then
There is a way to scan and then crop the results before saving / sharing / printing the scanned item(s).
Open the application
Set up your Scan ..
Start with the "Entire" field or at least something that will "catch" the image in the scan window
Set the main scan options, click Scan
Once the item is scanned, click the "Edit" icon (upper right area of the scan window)
The Edit menu includes a "custom" crop setting, a rotate adjustment, plus some color correction settings, and a "straighten" setting.
Adjust as wanted, Click "Apply"
Interesting option in the next step - if you desire, you can now print the scanned item(s).
Will this get you want you want?
Not sure - maybe it will get you closer, at least.
