I want to scan using HP Smart in black and white. However, the only options in the Output list are Colour and Grey. Grey does not give a good black and white scan.

Hi,

HP Smart allow color or grayscale scanning, black only scanning can be done with the HP Scan application.

 

Please clarify your printer model so we may guide you further accordingly.

I'm unable to complete setup of the software. It gets to the end and I get the message that the browser is unsupported. There's an option to copy the link, which I've copied and pasted into Firefox, Chrome and Edge and, when I click a link to get software, I just get this page: https://oss.hpconnected.com/spinner/

Please try launching the HP Scan or the HP Envy 4520 application, may it load?

 

Please let me know the results, as what you describe might only be the product registration step following the installation.

I found the HP Envy 4520 application but not HP Scan. When I click "Scan a Document or Photo" in the HP Envy 4520 application, nothing happens.

Hi,
From the search bar type CMD, right-click on Command-Line and select Run as Administrator, be sure to confirm any prompt by pressing Yes.

Past the following command and press enter:

Sc config stisvc depend= rpcss/ShellHWDetection

Now restart your computer and try scanning, may you see any difference?

I ran HP's problem detecting software and it looks like there was a problem communicating with the printer when it came to scanning. After using it, it looks like the printer and computer are talking again.
