HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I have an iMac running Sequoia 15.3.1 connected via a wifi mesh network to HP OfficeJet Pro 8600. The OfficeJet doesn't recognize iMac; I had to enter an IP address in the "Add Printers, Scanners, Fax" dialogue box. I can print to the printer, but I cannot scan. Again, the OfficeJet doesn't find the iMac. In the OfficeJet dialogue box, the "scan to computer" is not available, only scan to email or scan to network folder. Everything worked fine until I added the mesh network. I appreciate any help.

Hi @GTR811,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand that the printer works with the Mac OS 15, It looks like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 is not recognizing your iMac running Sequoia 15.3.1 after switching to a Wi-Fi mesh network. While printing works using the manual IP method, scanning is not functioning because the printer does not detect the iMac.

Key Points to Note:

  • The OfficeJet Pro 8600 was officially tested up to macOS Snow Leopard (10.6). Newer macOS versions are not officially tested, so compatibility issues may arise.

  • Mesh networks sometimes cause device discovery issues because they use multiple access points (APs), and devices may not be on the same subnet.

Check HP Smart App and HP Easy scan function to see if this helps:

  • Install the latest HP Smart app from the Mac App Store.
  • Try adding the printer in HP Smart and check if scanning is available.
  • Download HP Easy Scan from the Mac App Store (if supported on Sequoia).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
