Hi @Philly507,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If you're unable to change the scanning resolution above 300 dpi on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600, there are a few potential reasons and solutions to explore. Some scanning software or printer settings might limit the resolution by default.

1. Use the HP Scan Software

The HP Scan software usually allows you to adjust the resolution settings. Here's how you can increase the DPI above 300:

Open HP Scan:

  • On your computer, open the HP Scan software.
  • If you don't have it installed, download it from the HP Support Website by searching for your printer model.

Select the Scan Type:

  • Choose the type of scan you are performing (e.g., document or photo).

Adjust the Resolution:

  • In the scan settings, look for the Resolution or DPI setting.
  • Select a resolution above 300 DPI (for example, 600 DPI or 1200 DPI if available).

Save the Scan:

  • After adjusting the resolution, complete the scan and save the file with the higher DPI setting.

2. Check HP Printer Assistant or Embedded Web Server

If you're using HP Printer Assistant or the Embedded Web Server (EWS), you might also be able to change the resolution settings:

HP Printer Assistant:

  1. Open HP Printer Assistant from your computer.
  2. Go to the Scan Settings.
  3. Change the Resolution (DPI) setting to your preferred value.

Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  1. Access the EWS by typing the printer's IP address in a web browser.
  2. Navigate to the Scan or Settings menu.
  3. Check for any options to adjust the resolution and save changes.

3. Change Settings in Third-Party Software

If you're using third-party scanning software like Adobe Acrobat or Windows Fax and Scan, you may need to adjust the resolution within those applications:

Adobe Acrobat:

  • Go to the Create PDF from Scanner option.
  • Select Custom Scan and adjust the DPI/Resolution setting from the advanced settings.

Windows Fax and Scan:

  • Open the app and go to Scan.
  • Select Preview or Settings, where you can increase the DPI from the scan settings

Hi @Philly507 ,

Please find the remaining steps below.

4. Ensure You're Scanning Photos/Images

Some scanning modes or document types (like text) may limit the DPI. Ensure you are selecting a mode optimized for images or photos, as this typically allows higher DPI settings.

5. Reinstall the Printer Drivers and Software

If none of the above methods work, the issue may be with your printer's drivers or software:

Uninstall the Printer Drivers:

  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program and remove the HP software.

Reinstall the Latest Drivers:

  • Download and install the latest drivers from the HP Support Website for your OfficeJet Pro 8600.

Reconfigure the Printer:

  • After reinstalling, try to adjust the scan resolution again using the HP Scan software.

6. Update Firmware

If your printer's firmware is outdated, it might restrict certain features:

  1. Check for Updates:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
    • If an update is available, follow the prompts to install it.

If you've followed these steps and still can't change the resolution above 300 DPI, there may be a limitation with the specific scan function or settings on your device.

Keep me posted for further assistance
