I tried to enable Scan to Computer using the Settings in the HP Utility app. I received the message (in part), "The HP software required for Scan to Computer could not be located on this computer. Please download and install the latest HP recommended software...".
I then proceeded to the HP support website and downloaded the appropriate firmware updater. Upon running the executable, I received the message (in part) "Device is in an error state and cannot be flashed because of this..."
N.b., we have been able to print using this printer, over Wi-Fi, easily, since purchase and installation on 8/28/16. No problem there. In addition, using the *Apple* Settings menu, selecting "Printers & Scanners", and proceeding through the "Scan" routine, I may acquire a successful scan (placed as a "jpg" file in the "Pictures" folder).
Thus I am concerned—very disappointed—as to why I may not enable and use the HP "Scan to Computer" utility. It will not work either from the laptop side or from the printer control panel.

Hi,
If you may have the HP Scan or a previous version of HP Easy Scan within the Applications folder or under the HP subfolder, delete it by moving it to trash, then empty the trash.
Install the latest HP Easy Scan below, it will be installed within the Applications folder:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-easy-scan-1_...
If you experience any further issues, ensure the latest software is installed by following HP Easy Start below:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip
Finally, ensure your drivers are up to date by clicking the Apple icon, select About this Mac and then press Software Update.
Click Store on the top menu bar, click Reload Page, click Update All if any updated are available.

Shlomi

Thanks! I surely couldn't find that download in all my dredging through the HP site yesterday. It seems to fit the ticket, and will be a danged bit quicker than going through Settings-->Printer-->Scan-->etc. which produces a jpg which must then go to a graphics editor and on and on.
The HP Scanner App is VERY friendly in adding multiple pages, adding edits, rotating, saving in varieties of formats, and allowing choice of saved location, all in one app—in a minimum of steps!
Again, I truly thank you.
