Hello I cannot set up my printer to scan documents every time I get the error message of "cannot find the remote server. Check server name or use IP address to connect." Does it have to do with the SMTP Server settings? and if so how would I correct that?

Hi @Henry_Aguilar-6,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Yes, the error message you're encountering could indeed be related to the SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server settings. SMTP servers are responsible for sending emails, and if your printer is unable to connect to the SMTP server, it won't be able to send scanned documents via email.

To correct this issue, you'll need to ensure that the SMTP server settings configured on your printer are correct. Here's how you can do it.

  • Access the printer's web interface: Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network as your printer. Enter the printer's IP address into the address bar and press Enter. This should bring up the printer's web interface.
  • Login to the printer's web interface: You may need to enter a username and password to access the printer's settings. If you haven't set up any specific credentials, you can try using the default ones provided in the printer's manual or on the printer itself.
  • Navigate to the SMTP settings: Once logged in, look for the settings related to email or SMTP. This may be located under a section like "Network Settings" or "Email Settings."
  • Enter the correct SMTP server details: You'll need to input the correct SMTP server address, port number, and authentication settings. These details are typically provided by your email service provider or network administrator. Make sure to double-check the information to ensure accuracy.
  • Test the connection: After saving the SMTP server settings, try scanning a document again to see if the issue has been resolved. If the connection is successful, you should no longer receive the error message.

If you're still encountering issues after verifying and correcting the SMTP server settings, you may need to troubleshoot further or contact your network administrator for assistance. Additionally, make sure that your printer is connected to the network properly and has internet access.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
