Hi have a 4650 printer/scan

I used to be able to scan a document and save it as searchable PDF when I was using  40.11 version (I downloaded OJ4650_Full_WebPack_40.11.1122_1)

Now I have a new laptop and I downloaded  latest version (Full_Webpack-40.15.1231_1-OJ4650_Full_Webpack.exe)

I cannot save as 'searchable PDF' anymore. Has this option been removed from the software, or is it something different I need to change?

@jjj001, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

There is no option to save a scanned item as 'searchable PDF'. You can either save it as PDF or JPEG.

Are you using the HP Smart app to scan?

For more info on scanning, refer to - How to scan with an HP printer

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

That's incorrect. As I mentioned. I was able to use it with version 40.11.1112_1

I'm using   HP Printer Assistant > 'HP AIO Scanner'

I reinstalled that version. I get  an installation notice for 'I.R.I.S. OCR' while installing'. When running the program, I see the option 'save as a searchable PDF' again.

Is it some support that was removed, or I can added it back. I really used searchable PDF, so I'll consider to stay with older version

If you are referring to the OCR feature while scanning, it is bundled with the printer driver available on the HP drivers page. This feature is available only with limited printer models.

There is no option to download the old version of the driver as it is not available on the HP drivers page.

If you have downloaded and saved it on your computer, you may try installing it to get back the OCR feature. Else, you will have to use a third-party application.

For more info on this issue, refer to - Scan as Editable Text (OCR) with HP Scan (Windows).

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

I guess OCR is what allows to save documents as 'Searchable PDF'. If drivers cannot install OCR, you cannot save as 'Searchable PDF' But that's just my guess.

This feature was available for 4650

I had saved old drivers and I can confirm they work

Can you confirm that the problem is with the new drivers?

I'm not sure about 'searchable PDF'. But yes, OCR allows you to save documents as 'Editable PDF'.

HP was providing IRIS OCR software bundles with certain model printers.

However, now it is not included in the printer drivers anymore.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

I tried to reinstall the latest version again, but not sure if it went through. How can I verify which version is installed?

@jjj001

Did you download the software from the HP drivers page?

If yes, the latest version available is 40.15.1231_1. Click here to check the same.

There is no option to check the version of the printer driver after the installation is complete.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

I tried to, but I am not sure if it installed.

I see 40.11.XXX on the scanner driver, but I couldn't find info for the printer driver

You may re-download it from the link mentioned in my previous post.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
