The first page normally scans, and sometimes two or three more pages, however all pages after that will not scan. The following message appears:
The document feeder was not able to pick up the original. Load the original in the document feeder and try again.

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums After reading your post I see that you require assistance with the printer not feeding issue. I will be a delight to assist you here.
Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. 🙂 Kudos to you on that score.:)
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- When did this issue start?
- Did you do any changes to the printer?
Meanwhile
Clean the rollers inside the scan document feeder
Gather the following materials:
A lint-free cloth
Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (tap water might damage the printer)
Turn off the printer, and then disconnect the power cord and any other cables.
WARNING:
You must disconnect the power cord before reaching inside the printer to avoid risk of injuries or electric shock.
Open the top cover, and then open the document feeder tray.
Open the scan document feeder cover.
Figure : Opening the scan document feeder cover
Lightly dampen the cotton swab with water, and then squeeze any excess liquid from the swab.
Press the swab against the back rollers, and then rotate them upward with your fingers. Apply a moderate amount of pressure to remove any dust or dirt buildup.
CAUTION:
To avoid damage to the printer, do not clean the rollers from the rear of the printer.
Repeat these steps to clean the front rollers.
Allow the rollers to dry completely (approximately 10 minutes).
Close the scan document feeder cover.
Reconnect the power cord and any other cables to the rear of the printer, and then turn on the printer.
Try to print.
Reset the printer
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Try to print.
Click here and refer the HP Document to perform the above steps.
Let me know how it goes.
Cheers.
