It's so annoying!!! I ran into this starting on Saturday. I noticed on the HP Smart page the tile used to be titled "Scan" in a fuschia colored tile. The tile moved and renamed "Printer Scan". I tried to chat with support, and they ghosted me in the middle of the conversation supposedly looking for another tech with scan experience. How annoying is this??? How can I get my project done?????

I doubt that’s the problem. I have two HP All In Ones of different ages and models, and it happened with both my printers. I noticed that the location of the “Scan” tile moved and changed names. It feels like HP has made the change and removed some features….And I still have not heard back from anyone even after I wrote out a request after being ghosted during a “chat”.

Hi @argier,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're experiencing issues with scanning from the document feeder of your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-In-One Printer using HP Smart on Mac OS Ventura 13.4.1 (or any macOS version), you can try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem.
Check for Software Updates: Ensure that both your macOS and HP Smart software are up-to-date. Sometimes, updating your software can resolve compatibility issues.
Restart the Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can help clear minor glitches.
Restart Your Mac: Sometimes, a simple restart of your computer can resolve issues.
Reinstall HP Smart: If updating the software doesn't work, try uninstalling and then reinstalling HP Smart. You can do this by dragging the HP Smart application to the Trash, emptying the Trash, and then downloading and installing the latest version from the HP website.
Reset the Printing System: In some cases, resetting the printing system can resolve scanning issues. To do this, go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners," right-click on your printer, and select "Reset printing system." Note that this will remove all printers and scanners from your list, so you'll need to re-add your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 afterward.
Check for HP Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware updates installed. You can usually check for firmware updates from the printer's control panel or through the HP website.
Check Scanner Settings: Within HP Smart or your Mac's settings, verify that the scanning settings are configured correctly, especially regarding document feeder use.
Scan Using an Alternative Method: If you're unable to resolve the issue with HP Smart, you can try using the built-in scanning functionality of macOS. Here's how:
- Place the documents in the document feeder.
- Open the "Preview" app on your Mac.
- Click "File" > "Import from Scanner" or "Import from [Your Printer's Name]".
- Follow the on-screen instructions to scan your documents.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
