I have installed the printer on my new McBook Air and do not understand how to be able to scan from the flat bed. I have tried to change in the settings to flat bed but still it doesn't work and I can only use the document feeder which I don't want/can because then I get a black line through the whole document (that problem I had already on my previous MacBook but avoided the line by scanning from the flat bed). What can I do?

The ADF likely needs to be cleaned on the printer.

At this writing, Catalina is not fully compatible with HP Easy Scan.
Please, for now, use Apple Image Capture as the workaround:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c06455960
Image Capture (also) supports scanning documents - details for Scan Mode (flatbed or ADF) are included in Step #5
HP is aware of the issue (scanning using HP Easy Scan) and will release a fix when it is available.

Hi there,
Coming back to my problem not being able to scan from my flat bed, when will you update the program to run with Catalina 10.15.1? Can I expect that my Mac automatically recognize the update or how do I know when available. I really think it should be available by now! Cannot understand why it takes so long time!
The workaround you decribed doesn't work for me or maybe I don't understand your description.
Regards,
Lena

I realize you are directing your questions to HP and not our community.
I cannot answer your question - those who do not work for HP have not yet been given an answer to the "When will it be fixed".
Worse, I cannot answer the question about whether your printer will recognize when an update is available. I can speculate - useless - and if I am wrong, you won't like that either. Sad Face Here.
Finally, since HP has been moving to "Easy Start" installation, I do not know of a way you can easily discern if the software driver is updated unless you try to install it. Useless, I know - why install the (likely) same version of printer software in some misguided hope that it will be "new"?
What you can do:
Open your printer's homepage on occasion - News and Alerts sometimes show up on the upper right part of the web page. This issue is a "big deal" - there will likely be a notification when there is news.
Apple Image Capture
The recommended workaround is not likely something you misunderstood - that of using the Apple software "Image Capture". I cannot judge the usefulness of the Apple Software - I don't have have Mac OS systems. Maybe the Apple scan software is not compatible with your Laser printer??
Woe and sadness...
I feel like the Grinch that stole the joy of the season out from under you.
