I am trying to scan to my computer while connected by USB.  I have no trouble printing.  I have tried scanning to computer from the printer interface.  It will generate a preview fine, so I know the scanner is working.  When I click Scan,  it tries to connect to my computer and I get the following error:  The computer is not responding.  Check if the USB cable attached or wireless working properly, then try again.  

 

I also tried scanning via the HPSmart app.  I have the printer appears as ready in the app (again I am connect via USB and I can print anything fine).  I click on Scan and I get the following error:  HP Smart cannot scan from this printer.

I understand you are unable to scan while the printer is connected with USB.

 

Please Use HP Print and Scan Doctor 

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor and run the program. It will automatically diagnose and fix any printer connectivity issues.
