I've installed the latest published firmware for the M477, which is 20180201. My computer is running MacOS 10.14.2. The testing process in the EWS passes. When I actually attempt to scan a document and send it to my computer, an error occurs on the printer stating that the file cannot be written to my preferred location because the folder is read-only (it's not), has the wrong permissions (it doesn't), or is no longer available (it is).

Eager to see the solution but don't know how to find your solution if it was sent as a "Private message"

That version of firmware recently posted to the piublic should have th esame fixes as the pre-release firmware I have been providing. The solution was specific to macOS so if you are having issues with your PC there must be a different issue than the firmware one.

Hello all...the firmware I have been providing via private message is now publicly available from the HP Support pages.
If you are having issues with only being able to scan 75 dpi to you macOS network folder then please make sure you update to the 20190113 version of firmware.
Edit:
The printer firmware to address this issue has been posted publicly for the M477, M426 and M427.
Please go to support.hp.com/drivers select Printer and type in your printer model. The exact printer name should autofill.
On the driver page select Mac OS and 10.14.
Then open the firmware section.
Download and install the firmware updater.
