Hello, I have a HP PageWidePro 577dw that is fairly new. I am unable to send fax or receive fax through the printer and its strange because I had this same printer before through the same phone line and it was sending fax just fine. The fax cord is fairly new as well and is plugged into the same line as my office phone, office phone works, fax doesn't. I made sure all my fax setting were correct and I proceeded to run multiple fax tests and I get an error that reads "The printer's fax component has become damaged and cannot preform the fax test"...I asked HP if there was anything they could do if i got a faulty printer, and they said I would just have to buy a new one....I don't want to, this one is nearly new. If anyone is having this same issue and resolved it, please let me know

it could be a bad fax board, if every other functions works well you could consider just replacing the fax board. Part number for the fax board is D3Q24-67056
It is listed on the HP Parts Store for under $50 Canadian.

Hello, thank you for your response! I have found a fax board part that fits the model of my printer but before purchasing I wanted to know if installing the new fax board will mess with my printers firmware or if it will force a factory reset. Unfortunately I have not been pleased with the new firmware update and I like the one I am using now, I have auto updates turned off, I am just worried if I install the new piece it will; reset my printer to auto updates and the firmware will begin to install. I looked all over the internet for an answer and wasn't able to get one so I am hoping you might know. Thank you!

In my experience, no. I have never swapped a fax card and had it force any sort of reset.
