I would like to change the resolution of the scan.  I initiate the scans from the flatbed or feeder, by operating the controls on the scanner itself.  I choose the PDF option.  I don't see any way to change the resolution.

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you want to change the resolution of the scans.

  • Open the HP printer software, go to the Scan section, and then select Manage Scan to Computer.
  • Change the scan resolution there.
  • Then follow the below steps to scan from the printer.
  • Load your original print-side down in the left-rear corner of the scanner glass or in the ADF.
  • Touch Scan, and then select Computer.
  • Touch a computer that you want to scan to.
  • Choose the type of scan profile you want.
  • Touch Start Scan.

Let me know if that helps.

I don't see an option to change the resolution when managing the printer through my desktop computer.  Here is a screen shot of how the software looks on my computer

I made a research and see that changing resolution while doing a scan to computer option is not available.

I hope that helps.

I am pretty sure that I have seen the option before.  I remember it being on the small screen on the printer.  I'd be very surprised if there was no option as someone wanting to scan a photo, for example, would not want the same settings as someone scanning a document.

Try updating the printer firmware and check.

Refer this HP document for the steps to update the firmware:- Click here

Spoiler

On the "printer update" screen, I have auto update turned on.  So, I must have the most up to date firmware.
