Hello! Does anyone know how to change the current scan output location from one computer to a different computer? My desktop no longer supports my email server so I need to change my scans to go to my laptop. Thank you.

@Anmost, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're transitioning from an old desktop to a newer laptop and want to set up your HP OfficeJet 5255 to scan directly to your new system, here’s a straightforward guide to update the scan destination:
✅ Step-by-Step: Change Scan Output to Your New Laptop
- Install HP Software on Your New Laptop
- Download and install the HP Smart app or the Full Feature Software from the HP OfficeJet 5255 Software & Drivers page.
- Ensure that both your printer and laptop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Remove the Old PC from Scan Shortcuts (if needed)
- On the printer screen, tap Scan > Computer.
- If your old desktop is still listed, remove or ignore it.
- Enable Scan to Computer on the New Laptop
- Open the HP Printer Assistant (part of the full software suite).
- Click on Scan > Manage Scan to Computer.
- Make sure "Enable Scan to Computer" is checked.
- Optionally, check "Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log in" for convenience.
- Set Up Default Scan Settings (Optional)
- From the HP Printer Assistant or HP Smart app, you can configure:
- Default scan destination folder
- File type (PDF, JPEG, etc.)
- Resolution and other settings
- From the HP Printer Assistant or HP Smart app, you can configure:
- Test the Scan
- Use the HP Smart app on your laptop to initiate a scan.
- Alternatively, go to the printer, select Scan > Computer, and choose your laptop.
❗ Troubleshooting Tips:
- If your laptop doesn’t appear as a scan destination:
- Restart both the printer and laptop.
- Ensure the HP Scan software is installed correctly.
- Temporarily disable firewalls to check if they’re blocking discovery.
- If you had scan-to-email set up on your old desktop, you’ll need to reconfigure that on your new laptop separately.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
