When you hit the scan button it asks you to select a computer.  I just Iinstalled a new computer.  It now gives me 2 choices(names) to select--my old computer and the new one.  I just want the new computer name to be listed. Can this be done without reinstalling the printer/scanner?

Hi @RICH119,

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the " Change destination for scanned documents" issue.

Follow the instructions below to change the destination for your scanned documents-

NOTE:

If you are scanning from the printer control panel, use HP Scan to find the default folder your scans are saved to.

  1. In HP Scan, select a Save as shortcut, and then click More.

  2. Click the Destination tab.

The folder your scans save to displays under Save To Folder.

Finding the folder scans are saved to

  3. To change the default folder, click Browse.

  4. Navigate to the folder you want to save your scans to, and then click OK.

  5. To save the new folder as the default location for the shortcut, click the Save icon  next to the shortcut.

Saving changes to a scan shortcut

To change the name on your windows computer-Go to Settings > System > About and select the Rename PC button in the right column under PC. Then type the name you want to rename the computer. Remember that you can't have spaces and certain other characters.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

The problem involving the destination folder I was able to solve.  The main problem is the following(which I just put in an edited post):

When you hit the scan button it asks you to select a computer.  I just Iinstalled a new computer.  It now gives me 2 choices(names) to select--my old computer and the new one.  I just want the new computer name to be listed. Can this be done without reinstalling the printer/scanner?

@RICH119,

Is your old computer still connected to the same router as the printer?

Meanwhile, I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps. (If you are still using the old computer make sure that it is turned off and not connected to the router)

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  2. Remove USB cable, if present.
  3. Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  4. Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Cheers!
