Hi @Cap179

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're trying to update the email password in your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 printer's address book, but you’re encountering issues when attempting to make the changes. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how you can change the password in the HP Address Book, as well as troubleshoot common issues:

Steps to Update Email Password in HP Printer Address Book:

Access the Printer’s Web Interface (EWS)

  • Find Printer IP Address:
    • On your printer's display, navigate to Setup > Network > View Network Summary (the exact location of this can vary, but you should find it under the "Network" or "Wireless" section).
    • Write down the printer's IP address.
  • Open EWS:
    • On your computer, open a web browser and type the IP address of the printer in the address bar (e.g., http://192.168.x.x).
    • This should take you to the Embedded Web Server (EWS) for your printer.

Login to the EWS (Embedded Web Server)

  • If prompted, you may need to log in with the admin username and password for the printer. The default username is usually “admin” and the password may be blank (empty), or it could be set by you previously.
  • If you don’t know the password, you might need to reset it through the printer’s settings or consult the printer's manual.

I hope this helps.

Thank you! I tried deleting in the address book but it didn't help. I am still getting an error code that the username and password are incorrect. How do you change these? My network settings changed with Office 365.

Hi @Cap179,

Thank you for your response.

It sounds like you're trying to update the email settings on your scanner (likely to use Office 365 as the mail server), and you're encountering an error related to the username and password. This typically happens when the email settings on the scanner are out of date or no longer match the current network settings.

Follow the below instructions -

--->Touch the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address

--->Open a web browser (ex Chrome or Mozilla) and type in the printer's IP

--->On the Scan tab, click Scan to Email, and then click Settings.

Clicking Settings in the Scan to Email menu on the Scan tab

Click the Add New Profile icon to create an outgoing email profile.

NOTE:

If you are setting up Scan to Email in an environment that uses a single email server to manage all email accounts, configure the settings in the Outgoing Email Settings section. Otherwise, configure the settings in the Outgoing Email Profiles section.

Type the outgoing email address and a display name, and then click Next.

NOTE:

If you want to restrict the use of this outgoing email address, add a PIN.

Type or select server options, such as SMTP server, SMTP port and maximum email size, and server authentication, and then click Next.

To automatically send a copy of all emails to your email address, select the Include sender in all email messages sent out successfully from the printer check box, and then click Next.

Confirm the settings, and then click Save and Test or Save Only.

If a minus sign in a red circle displays, the printer cannot validate the settings on your network. Click Edit to change settings, and then test again. Repeat this step until the settings are correct. Contact your network or service provider to check your settings, if necessary.

In the menu bar on the left side of the window, click Email Options, select default scan and file settings, and then click Apply.

In the menu bar, click Address Book to add email destinations.

Click Contacts to configure a local address book.

Click Address Book Settings to configure a Network Directory Server (LDAP) and search for users within a company.

Click Apply to complete the contacts list.
