ENVY 4520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just got this printer, installed the drivers just fine and it seemed to be working okay. But when I attempted a scan onto my computer, the colors appear faded and the image even has some mild pixelation on it. Increasing the resolution only washes out the colors even more, giving the image a sepia tone. I've done a lot of research and tried a lot of things (hard reset, HP Scan Doctor, messed around with contrast and brightness, even tried a different computer with an older OS) but nothing seems to work. I'm at my wit's end here so any suggestions would be appreciated.

A warm welcome to HP forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Power resetting the printer, cleaning the scanner and updating the printer firmware may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Clean the scanner, refer to step 2 from this document.

5) Plug the power cord back into the printer

6) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges.

7) Download and update the printer firmware from here.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for the reply.

It's plugged into a wall and the printer is fully updated (I downloaded the update to make sure) but I didn't try removing the ink cartridges before. Followed your steps but the problem persists. 😞 Text looks very clear but colors just don't look good. I made a comparison image and you can see that the image scanned with the ENVY is very grainy compared to an old all-in-one I used. I'm thinking maybe it's just the quality of the product at this point. 😞 But thanks for hearing me out.

You are welcome!

Since those steps failed to improve the scan quality, its possible that its a hardware failure. Please call HP Support to obtain all available repair/replacement options. I've send you a private message with instructions on how to contact HP Support. Could you please check your inbox on the forums page for the private message.
Have a great day!
