Hi @Cheryl125,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Setting up scan to email on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw involves a few steps. Here's a general guide, but keep in mind that specific steps may vary slightly based on firmware versions and other factors. Always refer to your printer's user manual for the most accurate instructions. Also, make sure your printer is connected to your network and has internet access before proceeding.

Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Open a web browser on your computer.
  • Enter the printer's IP address in the address bar and press Enter. You can find the IP address on the printer's control panel by navigating to Setup > Reports > Network Configuration Page.

Log in to the EWS:

  • If prompted, enter the administrator username and password. The default credentials are usually found in the printer's documentation.

Configure Email Settings:

  • In the EWS, navigate to the Scan tab or a similar section.
  • Find the "Outgoing Email Profiles" or a similar option.

Add a New Outgoing Email Profile:

  • Click on "Add Outgoing Email Profile" or a similar option.
  • Enter the required information:
    • Profile Name: Give your profile a name for easy identification.
    • SMTP Server: This is your email provider's SMTP server address. Refer to your email provider's documentation for this information.
    • Port Number: Typically, this is 587 for TLS or 465 for SSL. Check your email provider's settings.
    • Encryption: Choose either TLS or SSL based on your email provider's requirements.
    • Authentication: Enter your email address and password for authentication.

Test the Configuration:

  • After saving the outgoing email profile, there might be an option to test the configuration. If available, use this feature to ensure that the email settings are correct.

Verify Email Recipient Settings:

  • Check for additional settings related to the email recipients. Ensure that the destination email addresses are correctly configured.

Save Changes:

  • Once you've entered all the necessary information, save the changes.

Test Scanning:

  • Place a document in the scanner feeder or on the glass and initiate a scan from the printer's control panel to test the scan to email functionality.

Check for Error Messages:

  • If there are any error messages, refer to the printer's user manual or the EWS for troubleshooting steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
