Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Is there a way I can connect my Macbook Air to my HP Officejet Pro 8600 Printer so that I am able to scan documents on my printer to go straight to my laptop?

Hi @eri14,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Yes, you can scan directly from your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer to your MacBook Air by following these steps.

Ensure the Printer and MacBook Air are on the Same Network: Both the printer and your MacBook must be connected to the same WiFi network.

Install HP Smart or HP Easy Scan:

  • If you haven't already, download and install the HP Smart app or HP Easy Scan on your MacBook Air.
  • Both apps should recognize your printer if they are connected to the same network.

Set Up Scanning:

  • Open HP Smart or HP Easy Scan on your MacBook Air.
  • In HP Smart, select "Scan" from the app's main menu. Choose your printer from the list of available devices.
  • In HP Easy Scan, select your printer from the "Select Scanner" dropdown and choose your scanning preferences.

Start Scanning:

  • Once your printer is selected, place your document on the scanner bed or in the document feeder (depending on your preference).
  • Press "Scan" within the application on your MacBook, and your document will scan directly to your MacBook.

Save or Share the Scan: After scanning, you can choose to save the file to your desired location or share it via email or cloud services.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
