Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.
I came across your post and would like to help. I read that your HP OfficeJet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer will not copy and makes a ding-dong noise.
I would like to know the following information to assist you better:
- Is the printer able to print and document properly from the computer?
- Did any hardware changes take place on the printer recently?
Meanwhile, I did some research and suggest you to perform the following steps to isolate and fix the issue:
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
- Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
Please try to scan and observe the scanner bulb inside the printer:
- If the document is placed on the scanner glass bed, the scanner bulb glows and moves to copy that page.
- If you try to copy the document using the document feeder the scanner bulb glows and remains stagnant, only the page moves.
If none of the steps help to make a copy then the evidence points towards a scanner failure and you may contact our HP phone support to explore the hardware service options for the printer.
I sincerely hope this information helps. Please free to keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂
