Check to make sure your postcard is an allowed size in the Specifications (not too small, for example),
For example, standard supported cards are listed in Paper Handling > Supported Cards
Next, you need to set the paper size on the printer control panel after you load the little paper into the tray.
Read:
Steps 1 & 2
Paper Setting on Printer Control Panel
Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper at the Printer Panel
Open Printer Tray,
If you have not yet done so, add desired paper type
Close Tray
IF applicable for your printer:
On the printer control panel, Click Modify (wording varies), set the paper size and type, Click OK
NOTE: If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down list, Select Custom

If the Copy results still do not match the need, consider
Scan the original > Save image file > Open file > Print
The following content assumes:
- You are using a recent version of Windows and that the Full Feature Software is installed.
- Not "all details" are included - some familiarity with your print software is assumed.
NOTE >> "Other OS"
- Some of the general procedure might be similar for Mac OS but the details are strikingly different.
- None of this content addresses printing from a Mobile device.
Scan the image of the postcard into your computer
➡️ Scan the original postcard into the computer and saving the image as a .jpg file.
Use whatever scan software with which you are comfortable.
For example,
Irfanview provides a free program that can be used for a variety of scan and print tasks, including the “Mirror” or horizontal flip function.
- Create a Restore Point (optional, recommended)
- Download the appropriate version (32bit or 64bit) of the program from the Website and install the program
- Additional information at the website, including: FAQ
Once installed, open the software > tab Help
OR
HP Scan and "Auto Detect Size"
- If you can do so, select the "Detect" page size to grab the boundaries of your postcard. If your HP Scan software does not provide the "Detect" option for page size, it is possible that HP Scan Extended will still work and can be installed - HPSE does provide "Detect" to scan "just the postcard". Find the HPSE link / download and information later in this message.
Print the file onto your postcard paper.
NOTE >> Custom Paper Size form
- If your postcard paper on which you want to print the scanned image file is not in the "standard supported size" list, create a custom paper size form. Creating Custom Paper Sizes
➡️ Open the image file in software appropriate for the file type - for example, Windows Photos or Paint (mspaint).
NOTE >> If Using Photos
- Click on Folders (along the top ribbon of options) to narrow the search for the image - select the folder in which you saved the scanned image file.
- Remember to click "More Settings" where you can select the paper size from your list of paper sizes.
➡️ Print the file, setting the Source (tray), the Media type (Index / card), and the Paper Size.

Download, save, and install to use. Exceptional free HP scan program: HP Scan Extended features include (and are not limited to): Single, Multiple scans, Image and PDF scans, Email as PDF / JPEG, Source selection, Page Size choices include Auto-Detect (extracts image / document boundary). May include OCR (Save as Editable Text).
NOTES
- HPSE is an older subset of the printer software; features are very similar to scan software included in 2015 or newer Full Feature Software packages.
- If you have the newer version of the scan software inside your Full Feature Software, use the Printer Assistant shortcut icon on Desktop (named for printer) > Scan a document or image (wording varies).
- Although the HPSE program works as a separate program, HPSE is dependent on the infrastructure provided by the printer software. The Full Feature Software for your printer should be installed before installing HPSE.
- OPTIONAL: Add HP Scan Extended shortcut to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start
- Open File Explorer > Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Scan Extended\bin
- Right-Click exe > Select Pin to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start
