Officejet Pro 8600 - I've been told to resolve the streak issue to turn it off/on. Which I found out on my own that this resets/solves the problem. Can anyone tell me why the printer can't be left on continuously? HP chat person stated it has to do with static electricity...Sounds BS to me. Never had this problem with my old 8500. Pc's on network are turned off at night, back on in the morning.

Yes, as soon as you see the front panel options fax, scan and copy the printer is fully initialized.

Hello Tinpenny,
I am not sure why you were told your OfficeJet 8600 could not be left on continuously, however I do know that alot of the printers features have an Auto Sleepmode built right into the printer now which allows for the device to save energy. You should not have any problems leaving it on continuously, just remember then when you wake up your printer or turn it on you need to make sure the 8600 has completely initialized before lifting the scanner lid. You need to wait for your front panel guide to come up before attempting the scan.
If you have anymore questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks,

I am responding to a 2-21-2014 post. This evening my HP 8600 printer showed a black vertical streak mark on the HP scan preview when I scanned a document using the ADF. This would have saved to a file as well as printed with a black vertical (as it has done before). I consulted HP Discussion Board and found the discussion on static electricity. Following a suggestion provided several times, I turned off my HP 8600 printer, unplugged it, then waited 15 seconds. I replugged the printer, powered it up, and rescanned using the ADF. Viola! Streak gone.
