Hi @CherylW1986
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Deskjet 2855e printer is printing just fine from your laptop but you're unable to make a copy, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue. The copying function is usually separate from printing, and there may be settings or issues affecting it. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you fix the copying problem.
1. Check for Paper or Ink Issues
Ensure that your printer has paper loaded in the input tray and enough ink in the cartridges. The printer won’t copy if there is no paper or ink.
- Load paper into the input tray and make sure it is aligned properly.
- Check your ink levels via the HP Smart app or your printer’s control panel to ensure sufficient ink.
2. Use the Copy Function Directly from the Printer
Instead of relying on your computer to initiate the copy, try using the copy function directly from the printer control panel. Here’s how:
- Turn on the printer and make sure it's connected to power.
- Place the document you want to copy face down on the scanner glass (align it with the guides).
- On the printer’s control panel, press the Copy button (it may be labeled with a "Copy" icon or be listed under the "Control Panel" menu).
- Choose the number of copies you want, and select the color (Black & White or Color).
- Press Start to begin the copy process.
3. Check the Scanner Functionality
Since copying involves scanning the document first, the issue may be related to the scanner itself. Try scanning a document to see if the scanner works.
- Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
- Select Scan and try scanning a document.
- If scanning works, the issue might be with the copying feature, but if scanning doesn't work either, there may be a problem with the scanner hardware or software.
4. Restart the Printer and Computer
Sometimes, restarting both your printer and computer can resolve temporary glitches.
- Turn off your printer and unplug it for about 30 seconds.
- Restart your computer.
- Plug in and turn on your printer.
- Try copying again after both devices have rebooted.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
