We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Printer is not hooked up to a pc, using only to make copies and printer is taking my 8x11 original and reducing to 4x5.  How can I set default print to 8x11?  And can I do this from printer control panel or do I need to download software to my phone or install a pc or laptop with software to configure settings?

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

 

Not connected to "anything" is a tough way to use this type of printer.

This printer lacks a text-input-capable printer control panel.

What you can do at the printer is pretty limited - buttons and lights.

 

Copy from the printer is limited to whatever the printer is set to produce.

User Guide > Page 66

 

If the settings are wrong or being misunderstood by the printer,

and

Without a way to talk to the printer (software or application on a device that can communicate with the printer)

You cannot change any of the settings.

 

So - yes, the printer needs to be connected to "something" that allows you to use tools to communicate with it.

 

At the least, connect the printer to your network so you can use the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

 

Whether EWS can fix a spurious copy size failure is not something I can answer --

 

Using EWS, you can adjust the Paper Size & Type - Tray and Paper

 

Without having installed the HP Smart application on your mobile device (phone)

and

Without having install HP Smart on your computer,

If the printer is on the network,

Try using EWS from your browser on a device that is connected to the same network as the printer.

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

 

EWS – Browser – Tray and Paper Management

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management

Select / Adjust settings for Paper Size / Type

Model Dependent:  Advanced section

Click Apply to save changes

 

Example - Embedded Web Server - EWS - Tray and Paper

If adjusting Tray and Paper does not change what the printer is doing,

then - Yes, you will need to at least install the HP Smart application on your phone (if supported).

Next, use Scan instead of Copy
