I scanned a document to a PDF.  I got two files:   scan.pdf, in the HPSCANS folder, about 2 MB; and .HPIMAGE.BFS, about 4 GB.   Do I need to keep the VFS file?

.HPIMAGE.VFS

 

No, you don't need it.

It's a convenience - it is not your photo / image data.
