Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan

HP Recommended

I'm trying to use the document feeder to scan a multi-page document into my computer. I'm using the HP Smart app, and my printer is properly connected to my printer (it prints just fine). But when I try to use my document feeder, nothing happens. YES, I HAVE THE DOCUMENT FEEDER SELECTED from the drop-down menu when I try to scan. Yes, my printer makes a chirp noise indicating that it senses the documents I've put into the feeder for scanning. But it won't scan - it won't even try to process the documents. This is extremely frustrating.

I'm using an HP Envy 6452e.

Hi @JA_985,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds quite frustrating dealing with your document feeder issues, but I'll do my best to help you troubleshoot this problem! Let's go through a few steps to see if we can get your scanner working properly:

Check for Paper Jams:

  • First, ensure there are no paper jams in the document feeder. Even a small piece of paper stuck in the feeder can cause the scanner not to function properly. Check the feeder path carefully and remove any obstructions.

Inspect the Document Feeder:

  • Look at the document feeder tray and the rollers. Make sure there's nothing blocking the path where the paper feeds into the scanner. Clean the rollers gently with a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol to ensure they can grab the paper effectively.

Check the Paper Settings:

  • Ensure that the paper size and type settings on the HP Smart app match the actual paper loaded in the document feeder. Mismatched settings can prevent the feeder from operating.

Restart the Printer and Computer:

  • Turn off both your printer and your computer. Wait for about 30 seconds and then turn them back on. This can help clear any software glitches that might be causing the feeder to malfunction.

Update Printer Firmware and Software:

  • Check if there are any firmware or software updates available for your printer. Manufacturers often release updates to fix bugs or improve functionality. You can check this on the HP website or through the HP Smart app.

Check Scanner Settings:

  • Since the printer is chirping, it sounds like it detects the paper but isn’t starting the scan. Double-check the scanner settings in the HP Smart app. Ensure that the document feeder is selected as the source, and not the scanner glass.

Test the Scanner with Another App:

  • Try scanning using another application, such as Windows Scan (if you are using a Windows computer) or Image Capture (on macOS). This can help determine if the issue is with the HP Smart app or the scanner itself.

Reinstall HP Smart App:

  • Sometimes, reinstalling the application can resolve underlying issues. Uninstall the HP Smart app, restart your device, and then install the latest version of the app from the official HP website or your device's app store.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
